About Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
A premiere mountaineering institute in Darjeeling, it was built to commemorate the efforts of sherpa Tenzing Norgay and mountaineer Edmund Hillary. Their successful Mount Everest expedition sparked keen interest in mountaineering activities which resulted in establishment of this institute. It consists of residential school for trainers and sherpas along with a museum for mountaineering artifacts, various shops for handcrafted tibetan style items. It also houses the memorial of Tenzing.
