Jakhoo Hill and Temple, Shimla
About Jakhoo Hill and Temple
The highest point in Shimla is the peak of the enormous Jakhoo Hill. 8,054 feet above sea level, it is a major tourist spot hidden beneath the cover of deodar forests. It can be accessed by foot or the aerial ropeway starting from the Ridge. Its most significant and popular attraction is the Jakhoo Temple which is dedicated to the Hindu Monkey God, Lord Hanuman. It is believed that Lord Hanuman rested at the very place where the temple is built while on his quest to retrieve sanjeevani herb. A 108 feet high Hanuman statue is the center of attraction and draws thousands of admirers every year. The statue surpasses the height of Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janerio which stands at a height of 98 feet. A sight of religious significance for the Hindu devotees, it is a must-see place to visit.
