About City Palace
The City Palace was built by Maharana Udai Singh II and his successors over the course of 400 years. It was considered as a historical landmark since the Maharajas operated adn practiced their administrative duties for the palace. A site well-protected by the forests, lake and the Aravalli hills, it was chosen by Udai Singh II as the place to built a new capital for the Mewar Kingdom which intially operated in Chittor. At an elevation of 598 meters, the Palace complex is built of the east side of Lake Pichola on the a ridge. It contains 11 separate palaces, various gateways, and a Museum.
City Palace, known to be the biggest palace in India, where 4 generations of Maharajas added their contribution. It is so carefully planned and integrated with the original buildings making it quite difficult to believe that it was not conceived as a whole.
