We start at The Gateway of India, Mumbai, Maharashtra

The Gateway of India is an arch monument built during the 20th century in Mumbai, India.

The monument was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary, the British Monarch, at Apollo Bunder in 1911.

The structure is a triumphal arch made of basalt. It has been called a symbol of "conquest and colonisation" commemorating British colonial legacy. The gateway is also the monument from where the last British troops left India in 1948, following Indian independence.

On the opposite side of the monument, you will be able to see Taj Hotel, 5* Luxury Hotel is the iconic sea-facing landmark in Colaba, South Mumbai. This place is a famous tourist spot.

Stop At: Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai, Maharashtra

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is a historic railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India which serves as the headquarters of the Central Railways.

The terminus was designed by British born architectural engineer Frederick William Stevens, in an exuberant Italian Gothic style.

It was constructed in 1887, the year marking 50 years of Queen Victoria's rule. Hence it was formerly known as Victoria Terminus.

The station's name was changed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharah Terminus (station code CST) in March 1996 to honour Shivaji, the 17th-century founder of the Maratha Empire.

His name is often preceded by Chhatrapati, a royal title.

Stop At: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai, Maharashtra

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, abbreviated CSMVS, literal translation in English is “King Shivaji Museum”. It is the main museum in Mumbai, Maharashtra, formerly named the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. The building is built in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, incorporating elements of other styles of architecture like the Mughal, Maratha and Jain. The museum building is surrounded by a garden of palm trees and formal flower beds.

Stop At: Marine Drive, Mumbai, Maharashtra

Marine Drive is one of the most beautifully laid boulevards in southern part of Mumbai. The C shaped area in South Mumbai, Marine Drive, also called “Queen's Necklace”. Most of the buildings are constructed in an art deco style, which was popular in the 1920s and 1930s.

Stop At: Girgaon Chowpatty Beach

Girgaum Chowpatty, is a public beach along the Queen’s Necklace adjoining Marine Drive in the Girgaon area of Mumbai, India.

Further down this road lies Walkeshwar, a wealthy neighborhood of the city, also home to the Governor of Maharashtra. The beach is famous for its Ganesh Visarjan celebrations, during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Thousands of people from all over Mumbai and Pune come to immerse the idols of Lord Ganesh in the Arabian Sea.

Stop At: Hanging Gardens (Pherozeshah Mehta), Mumbai, Maharashtra

The "Hanging Gardens" spreads out over a vast area that offers green space and trees amongst the heavily congested South Mumbai. Along with numerous hedges carved into the shapes of animals, the gardens feature a prominent flower clock at its very centre.

Another source of attraction for tourists is the ‘Old Woman’s Shoe’ or the ‘Boot House’. It's giant boot structure made out of stone and brick. Children can climb into the house. In addition, the spectacular view of the Arabian Sea offered by the gardens is its main highlight.

Tourists flock to the park during late evenings to take in one of the most beautiful sunset views in the city.

Stop At: Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum, Mumbai, Maharashtra

Highlighting the life of India’s famous freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi, Mani Bhavan is a museum and historical building that features his room, a library, photos, films & other displays.

It was the focal point of Gandhi's political activities in Mumbai between 1917 and 1934. It was from Mani Bhavan that Gandhi initiated the Non-Cooperation, Satyagraha, Swadeshi, Khadi and Khilafat Movements. Gandhi's association with the charkha began in 1917, while he was staying at Mani Bhavan.

Stop At: Dhobi Ghat, Mumbai, Maharashtra

Dhobi Ghat is an open air laundromat in Mumbai, India. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open to clean clothes and linens from Mumbai's hotels and hospitals.

There are rows of open-air concrete wash pens, each fitted with its own flogging stone. Called the world's largest outdoor laundry, Dhobi Ghat is a very popular attraction among foreign tourists.

The word Dhobi Ghat is used all over India to refer to any place where many washers are present.

In the year 2011, Dhobi Ghat garnered a Guinness Book of World Records entry under ‘most people hand-washing clothes at a single location’.

Home to the dhobis and their families (around 200 families), the Dhobi Ghat has seen this occupation passed down from one generation to the next.

Pass By: Haji Ali Mosque, Mumbai, Maharashtra

The Haji Ali Dargah is a mosque and tomb located on an islet off the coast of Worli, in the southern part of Mumbai. Constructed in 1413, it is the shrine of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari the kind Sufi saint and a wealthy merchant from Uzbekistan.

Near the heart of the city, the dargah is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Mumbai. This is an exquisite example of Indo-Islamic Architecture, associated with legends about doomed lovers.

The dargah contains the tomb of Haji Ali Shah Bukhari.

Sometimes, especially on Fridays, various Sufi musicians perform a form of devotional music called Qawaali at the dargah.


Pass By: Antilia, Mumbai, Maharashtra
