About Jantar Mantar - Jaipur
Jantar Mantar, built by the renowned astronomer and King, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. A UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1734, it holds the largest stone sundial in the world. The name Jantar Mantar translates means ‘Calculating Instrument’ in English, it studied the three ancient celestial coordinate systems out of the five existing coordinate systems. There are a total of 19 astronomical instruments at Jantar Mantar which were used to study, calculate and measure the elements of time, distance and eclipses of celestial bodies.
