Tour Description

Welcome to soul-soothing Village tour of Dehene! This rural trip is bound to give you serene feels all the way! Dehene, a village about 120 km from Mumbai is a 3-hour drive towards finding yourself surrounded by nature and the quiet it allows for. Dehene peacefully nestles amidst mountains and forest. The community living here, a mix of Marathas and a tribal hamlet (Chinchwadi) will be facilitating your experience in the village.

We have a plan in place, but feel free to do less or speak to your guide about specific activities you have in mind. We hope to give you a closer look at what life in rural India looks like and its rich culture. Western washrooms have been constructed and there is sufficient water. The food will be arranged at one of the village homes. People are extremely warm and ensure your time spend in their village becomes a memorable experience.

Itinerary

  • 10:00 AM- Villagers welcome you in a traditional manner 
  • 10:30 AM- Breakfast is served before you start
  • 11:00 AM- The guide takes you for a walk around the village, learn about traditional Indian farms, catch a glimpse of everyday life in rural India 
  • 12:30 PM- Women of the house will teach you how to make Bhakri/Indian flat-bread on a traditional mud stoveBhakri making activity also involves processing grains (winnowing, pounding, grinding, etc) 
  • 01:30 PM- Authentic Maharashtrian food will be served as lunch in a local’s house
  • 03:00 PM- Walk to the river side or visit a tribal hamlet or play village games with kids
  • 05:00 PM- Trek to the sunset point  
  • 06:00 PM- Depart for Mumbai with a cherishable memories

Inclusions

  • All vegetarian meals in village homes (breakfast, lunch, tea + light snacks & dinner) for the duration of your stay. Black tea and light snack/Poha for breakfast and evening biscuits at the village.
  • Services of local village guides. One guide will be assigned to a group of 10-12 people.
  • Activities as mentioned in the itinerary.

Exclusions

  • Any personal or emergency expenses.
  • Transportation to and from the village. (Guests can choose to travel by local transport or hire a vehicle or drive down in their own vehicle)
  • Bottled drinking water. Filtered water is available at the village. Guests can purchase mineral water bottles. (charged on actual).
  • Non-vegetarian meals. 
  • English speaking translator/guide.
  • Anything not mentioned in the itinerary

Notes

  • The schedule provided is a guideline and we shall endeavor at all times to abide by the same. However, ground realities at the Village are sometimes not in our control.
  • Our Operations team might change the schedule on site, should the need arise. However, this will only be done in consultation with you at all times.
  • This is a Community tourism project, and the guides are present only for your tour facilitation. They are innately hospitable and eager to help. Please treat them with respect.
  • There is a strict policy of 'No Tips' to Villagers. This is simply to avoid disagreements between the locals.
  • Mobile network coverage is very erratic. Please contact the village guide should you need to make an important call.
  • We DO NOT allow consumption of alcohol or smoking while in the village or in the tent. We strongly support and encourage responsible tourism. If there is any kind of misbehavior, it will not be tolerated by us.
  • Alcohol and smoking are avoidable. No, drugs are not allowed. If you are seen handling, consuming or appear under the influence of any illegal substances we have the right to deny you entry and ask you to leave the premises, any amount of money given to us will be forfeited. If there are any accidents or mishaps to the property or people around due to smoking any substance you will be solely held legally responsible for the same and will have to pay for the damages.
  • Please carry personal toiletries, towel, sunscreen, caps, sun glasses, mosquito repellent cream (coils not allowed), personal medicines, comfortable clothes and wear comfortable walking shoes. Carrying umbrellas and rain gear is recommended for obvious reasons.
  • Clothing and Footwear—Wear comfortable clothes and shoes at all times. 
  • Strictly avoid wearing short or skimpy clothes or anything that exposes your shoulders. Swimsuit is avoidable.
  • Please respect local culture and values.
  • Please carry a torch with you. You can also avail of use of Solar Lamps on-site on payment of a refundable deposit of
  • Rs.400/- per lamp.
  • When going for meals at the villager’s home, you would be expected to remove your shoes outside.
  • The accommodation arrangement will be as confirmed during the booking process. Each visitor will be provided with a mattress, pillow, bed-sheets & blankets. Western bathrooms have been constructed at the campsite.
  • 24-hour electricity and flowing water are all subject to availability. Charging of electronic items may not be possible. Hot water for bath won’t be available.
  • The surroundings and amenities are very rustic. Room service is not available. For any special requests please contact the Grassroutes facilitator.
  • First-aid kits are available at the campsite. Please contact the guide should the need arise. Being surrounded by mountains there is very limited mobile network coverage, if any! Please be aware that you may not have access to mobiles and internet.
  • Filtered water is part of the tour. Bottled drinking water is available at the Village and charged on actual.
  • Locally grown vegetarian food will be served. Please indicate any special meal preferences 24 hours before. (Jain,
  • Diabetic etc.).
  • Local snack / biscuits will be provided at tea-time. Participants are free to carry any personal snacks / juices etc.
  • However, all non-biodegradable waste must be packed up, carried back and disposed on your way home.
