History
The Khandesh region, which covers Jalgaon and goes up to the Deccan region, was controlled by the Faruqi dynasty from the 1300s to 1600s. Before the rule of the Faruqi dynasty, it is believed that much of Jalgaon district was ruled. Khandesh was later governed by several leaders and dynasties including the Satavahanas, Virsen, Chalukya dynasty, Yadava dynasty, and the Yawan dynasty, before Alaud-din-Khilji, Mohammad Tughlak and the Nizam of Hyderabad ruled the region. The Marathas then ruled much of the region, and Sardar Tulajirao Bhoite, a Maratha leader, established the town. The Holkars next took control of the region before being they got into a battle with the British. Khandesh was later divided into two - East Khandesh, which is the region of modern-day Jalgaon, and West Khandesh. After Independence, East Khandesh became a part of the state of Bombay and later in 1960; Jalgaon was reorganised to become a district.
Culture
Shri Ram Rathosav was started by Appa Maharaj in 1872. For 2 years, this chariot passed from Shriram Temple to Jalgaon, from Bhavani Mata Mandir and reached Lalsha Baba Dargah again near Shriram Temple.In 2013, the route of Rathutsav was expanded. This route is four kilometers long. At present, Jalgaon People's Bank, Lalsha Baba are also included on the chariot route through Ghanekar Chowk.The height of the chariot is 5 feet.
